EMC The News interview with Rebecca Halls

Kristy Strauss of EMC The News for Ottawa West interviewed hooper Rebecca Halls during her recent visit to Ottawa, where she taught a Floorwork and Choreography workshop at Dovercourt Recreation Centre to local hoop aficionados. The article made the front page of the current issue; you can read it online here

Hoop Jam this Friday March 16, 7-8:30pm at Dovercourt

Beka makes it look easyCome out and hoop or — for those who attended Rebecca Halls' inspiring Floorwork workshop last sunday— roll, fold, slide, push & pull! (For those of you who didn't, don't be surprised if you see lots of foot hooping, graceful floor rolling, and starfish imitations from those who did!)

I will be in Toronto at Baxter's Toronto Hoop Path Event weekend #2, so Brigitte will provide some hoops & tunes.

Our NEXT jam night falls on Fri. March 30th, which is our OFFICIAL "The Hooping Life" screening + Hoop Jam evening! Things kickoff at 6:30pm, screening at 7:15pm and hoop jam follows at 8:45pm. Get your ticket at Dovercourt (upstairs or downstairs desk, or by phone 613-798-8950 ext. 0) or from ticket sellers including me (Trish), Jenny Anderson, Brigitte Ethier, Sophie Latreille, Bryana Katz, Amanda Halladay and Robyn Brehaut. $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Bring friends, family, neighbours…anyone who wonders what this crazy passion of yours is all about. You do not have to be 'into' hooping in order to enjoy this movie. Note that the subject matter is mature, and not suitable for children.

Rebecca Halls' Workshop Sun. Mar. 11/ 12 at Dovercourt

Rebecca delivered a content-rich workshop on Floorwork and Choreographic Technique, that had us rolling, folding, expanding, pushing, pulling, sliding…and channeling our inner-starfish. We focused on our connection to core, and endeavored to move powerfully and gracefully on the floor with and without the hoop. Hand hooping and foot hooping were added to the mix, as well as a few bruises and scrapes. It was all worth it, as we explored a whole new dimension to hooping and movement.

Thanks to everyone who came out; you made it an awesome afternoon :-)

Foot hooping prep…or tribute to Jane Fonda?

Hoop workshop with Rebecca Halls, Mar. 11, 1-4pm

Rebecca Halls is returning to Ottawa for a hoop workshop, "Floorwork & Choreographic Techniques", on Sunday March 11, 1-4pm at Dovercourt Recreation Centre. Rebecca has been living in Berlin, and performing, choreographing and teaching in Europe for the past year; we're excited that she could visit Ottawa during her winter tour.

Workshop Description: Play with Elevation Changes and Floor Work. Roll, bounce, slide, lunge and then throw your head back and giggle! Diversify your hooping style through the integration of level changes and floor work into your flow. Floor work is exciting and dynamic! It increases balance, strength, co-ordination and flexibility. In this workshop we will explore level changes, transitions from standing into the floor, entry-level acrobatics, and the importance of weight transfer. In the final portion of this workshop we will look at how to make choreographic choices with the hoop and learn different choreographic practices adopted from contemporary dance choreography.

This workshop is suitable for all levels. Course code 76920, $50 + tax. Spaces are limited. Registration is available now through Dovercourt Recreation Centre, online, in person or by phone (613-798-8950 ext. 0). To register online using Dovercourt's online registration website,  click here >>
