2017: hoop jams & hoop classes

A new year is upon us, and with it more hoop jams and classes. :-)

The first hoop jam of 2017 at Dovercourt will be Fri. Jan. 6, 2017, 6:30-8pm in the Assembly Hall/ Ottawa Physiotherapy & Sport Clinic room, upstairs at Dovercourt Rec Centre. This jam we'll feature a playlist to honour some of the artists who left us in 2016 including David Bowie, Prince & George Michael. Hoops are available to use. Hoop jams are free and happen every 2 weeks, September until June.

Hoop classes for Winter session get underway on Sun. Jan. 15, 11:15am. The All Levels class teaches foundational skills on the body (core hooping) using larger hoops as well as off-body skills and patterns using smaller hoops. New hoopers will learn techniques that will get them up and hooping, while experienced hoopers will be challenged with more complex and extended patterns and flow. It's always a fun time: you'll beak a sweat and forge new neural pathways in the company of other hoop-loving folks. Register through Dovercourt for the whole session or pay a drop in.

Fri. Jan. 2, 2015: first hoop jam of the new year

Let's spin in the new year at Dovercourt Recreation Centre this Friday, 7-8:30pm. Hoops are available to borrow, all are welcome. The jam is free. We're back on our regular rotation of every 2 weeks; jams are also posted on the Calendar page.

Hoop jam Fri. Sep. 5, 7-8:30pm and hoop classes start up

Hoop jams start up again at Dovercourt Rec Centre, 411 Dovercourt Ave. Ottawa, upstairs in the Assembly Hall from 7-8:30pm, starting this Friday Sep. 5. The jams generally take place every 2 weeks, but there are some exceptions due to scheduling, so check the Calendars & Classes page to confirm. These jams are free (thanks to Dovercourt Recreation Centre for their support), and a great chance for the hoop community to get together to share skills or just have solo practice time on a nice studio floor, with mirrors and sound system. Hoops are available to use (or you may bring your own). Other flow toys are also welcome. Kids are welcome, but they must be supervised to avoid injury.

Fall hoop classes at Dovercourt have been delayed one week (starting Sep. 14). Drop in is available ($14/ class) or register for the whole session: in person, by phone (613-798-8950 ext. 0), or online at
