Next hoop jam: Fri. Feb. 3, 7-8:30pm at Dovercourt

We had a great Hawaiian jam on Jan. 20, with tropical garb (grass skirts, flowers, leis) and a sun-soaked playlist from Jenny. Hoop play, solo and group, poi, acroyoga…it all flowed like…lava. :-) Thanks to everyone for warming up a chilly winter evening!

Next jam is Fri. Feb. 3, 7-8:30pm. Brigitte will host with hoops & tunes. I'll be thinking about each and every one of you (no, really) during my time at the Pulse of the Radiant Feminine Heart hoop/ yoga/ drum retreat in Hawaii :-)

Some upcoming events: Sophie & Brigitte will be doing fire shows at Winterlude. Look out on Facebook (Ottawa/ Gatineau Hoopers or Sophie Latreille or mini cirque) for dates & times. Their fire show is dazzling and the ladies will appreciate your support on a crisp winter night.

Canadian hooper Rebecca Halls (now living in Berlin) will be returning to Ottawa on Sunday March 11 for a workshop (I'll post the details as soon as they are finalized, but save the date). Here's her amazing demo video; check out the high heels!

Hawaiian Hoop Jam - Fri. Jan. 20, 7-8:30pm at Dovercourt

Hoop Jam at Dovercourt this Friday January 20th, 7-8:30pm. Let's make it a Hawaiian theme to combat the cold (-28ºC with windchill this morning) & snow -- and to get me prepped for my hoop/ yoga /drum retreat & teacher training on the Big Island of Hawaii with hoop goddesses Shakti, Rayna and Anah!.

Dress tropical -- even a flower in your hair will do -- and I'll bring some grass skirts. We have hoops & music. All are welcome, including kids (but please supervise your own if you bring them). :-)

Hoop Jam Fri. Nov. 11, 7-8:30pm at Dovercourt

Join us for a jam this Friday evening, 7-8:30pm at Dovercourt, upstairs in the Assembly Hall. All are welcome; we will have hoops and music. For those who are interested, we'll take a bit of time to learn the World Hoop Day dance (here's a breakdown of the choreo mapped to the lyrics) in preparation for the World Hoop Day event on Sunday 2-4pm outside in front of the National Gallery. In honour of Remembrance Day, we will hoop in silence towards the end of the jam.

Hoop Jam at Dovercourt, Fri. June 17, 6:30-8pm - Outside!

Let's hoop outside at Dovercourt if it's nice out -- and the forecast is looking good for the end of this week! We'll have hoops, tunes and sunshine!

This will be the last regularly scheduled Dovercourt jam until the end of the summer. We're going to let the summer jams evolve as they will. If you are out there in Ottawa and want to hoop in the company of like-minded folk, you can either head on over to Hoop City, the Eastern Ontario Hoopers group and post it in the Hoop Jam discussion or the regular Comment Wall, or send me the info and I will post it here on Sirenhoops and in our Google calendar. Regular bi-weekly jams will resume in September.

Jenny can't make your hair blue, but she can add feathers!Special pre-jam fun: Yoga & Hoop Gal Jenny Anderson is ready to adorn your locks with beautiful feather extensions! We saw this trend at Hoop Convergence, and it's beautiful. It's a look that can be subtle or flashy, depending on your preference. Jenny will be taking feathering appointments by email for times before this Friday's jam at Dovercourt. If you can't make it this Friday, not to worry. Jenny's contact info is below.

From Jenny: "Feather extensions are micro-crimped at the hairline, so you can wash, blow dry, or flat iron your feathers with your hair, and they'll last 2-3 months or longer. They're strong and will last indefinitely, so you can reapply them with a new crimp when your hair grows. If you're interested, email me at rainedance@hotmail.com to make a feathering app't after a class or at my place in Orleans. I have a flexible schedule, and feathering doesn't take longer than 20 minutes. Feather extensions are reasonably but individually priced, depending on your preferences. An average feather extension has 5 - 9 feathers in a bundle and is ~$15-20. I prefer to creatively customize to your personality and look. A feathering gathering (a gaggle? a murder? a pride?) will gain you a discount on your feathering too."
