Hoop Burlesque: saucy fun!

A packed house of hoopers learned the basics of Burlesque Hoop with the delectable Rita Poem including sexy struts, directing our gaze, bumping and grinding, framing, sweet spots, touch and "making breakfast". Participants rose to the challenge, donning costumes pieces and a playful attitude. A saucy playlist inspired everyone to slow down and really work it. Interest was so strong for this workshop and everyone had so much fun that we hope Rita/ Jenny returns to present more burlesque skills!

Intro to Hoop Burlesque Workshop: Fri. Oct. 19, 6:30-8:30pm ;-)

Visiting instructor Rita Poem will teach us the basics of burlesque with a hoop at Dovercourt Recreation Centre:

There’s no denying the sensual side to hooping, so let’s work it! In this workshop we’ll play with struts, poses, slowing the hoop, framing, directing the gaze, and other sassy moves. Get ready to laugh, relax, and release that fierce and confident inner hoop persona!

This workshop is best for hoopers with experience in both on and off body moves. Wear close fitting workout gear, preferably shorts and a tank. Costume pieces will be provided to experiment with during part of the workshop.

It’s best to bring the hoop you are most comfortable using on a regular basis, and an extra hoop with a slightly larger diameter than your “comfort hoop.” If you need to have a hoop provided for you, please contact Rita at ritapoem@gmail.com before the workshop.

Fri. Oct. 19, 6:30-8:30pm; Assembly Hall (upstairs at Dovercourt). Course# 76917, $30

Register now at Dovercourt: in person, by phone (613-798-8950 ext. 0) or online here >>

See the poster (pdf) for full details.

About the instructors: Rita studied hoop burlesque with Miss Saturn at the New York School of Burlesque, completed the Essential Burlesque series with Headmistress Jo “Boobs” Weldon, and the “Get your Act Together!” series with Jezebel Express. She made her stage debut in New York City this summer.  She’s been hooping for almost four years, writes poetry (of course!), and loves to encourage others. She believes that only boring people get bored.  If you leave your backyard unattended, she may start a Hoop Burlesque Poetry Circus there. Questions? Comments? Email her at ritapoem@gmail.com.
