Friday Sep. 26, 6:30-9:30pm - Fancy Fails, course code 93757, $55 (early bird price)
Everyone drops the hoop! It’s part of learning, the creative process and an inevitable problem you will face when performing, whether it’s on a stage or just trying to show off some moves to friends after a few drinks!! This workshop will teach you how to pick up the hoop in ways that’ll make it seem like you dropped it on purpose. Easy starts, kick ups, springs, spins, wedgies and even a few more acrobatic variations! Turn your ‘fails’ into your best tricks!

Sat. Sep. 27, 4-7pm, Crotch Extravaganza, course code 93758, $55 (early bird price)
A whole workshop devoted to hoop tricks involving the nether regions. They’ll be crotch flips, slams, grabs, rolls and jumps as well as a load of wedgies. Get ready to put some thrust into it! This is an all levels workshop with all tricks covered from the beginning and more advanced/two hoop variations for those desiring a greater challenge! Please bring a lightweight hoop or 2.

Sun. Sep 28, 1-4pm Mismatched Twins, course code 93759, $55 (early bird price)
This is twin hooping with a difference! Explore the use of 2 different sized hoops to create a visually impressive effect. The capacity for one hoop to pass through the other adds a multitude of possibilities. It’s great fun to play with and there’s loads of new tricks to be found with this interesting variation on twin hooping. This is an all levels workshop. All tricks will be covered with one hoop for newer hoopers and then we’ll add the second hoop for the more intermediate/advanced. Please bring all the hoops you are happy to share! We’re going to have to swap them around so everyone has the correct hoop combination. This workshop will also include some content from Kenna Hoop's "Twins: Change your Perspective" workshop.

Hoop jam Fri. Sep. 5, 7-8:30pm and hoop classes start up

Hoop jams start up again at Dovercourt Rec Centre, 411 Dovercourt Ave. Ottawa, upstairs in the Assembly Hall from 7-8:30pm, starting this Friday Sep. 5. The jams generally take place every 2 weeks, but there are some exceptions due to scheduling, so check the Calendars & Classes page to confirm. These jams are free (thanks to Dovercourt Recreation Centre for their support), and a great chance for the hoop community to get together to share skills or just have solo practice time on a nice studio floor, with mirrors and sound system. Hoops are available to use (or you may bring your own). Other flow toys are also welcome. Kids are welcome, but they must be supervised to avoid injury.

Fall hoop classes at Dovercourt have been delayed one week (starting Sep. 14). Drop in is available ($14/ class) or register for the whole session: in person, by phone (613-798-8950 ext. 0), or online at draregister.com

Amazing Ninjas!

What a great weekend with the Ninjas: the weather, the workshops and the turnout were all fantastic. We learned great concepts and moves within a Yin & Yang framework including wheels, weaves, balancing, tosses and rolls. Thank you to everyone who attended; you made it possible. Thanks to Zach & Marria for travelling from California to Ottawa to share with us. See photos from day 1 & day 2 below.

Ninja Hoops Yin & Yang workshops! Sat. July 5, Sun. July 6

Ninja Hoops are coming!

Join Ninja Hoops as they make their way to Dovercourt Recreation Centre in Ottawa for this 2 day event, Sat. July 5 & Sunday July 6, 2014 (12-2:30pm).

The workshop price is $110 for both days (contact Trish if you can only make one day).

Register online, by phone (613-798-8950 ext. 0) or in person, course code 91813.

Ninja Hoops Workshop: Yin & Yang

Join Ninja Hoops for an inspiring hoop workshop where they take you on a journey into the methods and styles of their own practice. Exploring space, time, and balance in all things, this two part workshop will reveal to you some secrets of the Ninja’s training, and expand your hoop capabilities into new realms. This workshop will be a benefit to any hooper who wants to diversify their technique, widen their practice, and balance their flow.

Yang - In the first part of this workshop, we’ll explore the creative benefits of a structured practice. Using games, exercises, and movement concepts, we’ll focus on a variety of hooping styles, and learn how an analytical mind can reveal previously unknown possibilities for self-expression. We’ll also bring our attention to our lower body, and learn how balanced footwork and dependable turning methods can increase our creative capacity. In this workshop, we’ll also be learning new varieties of wheels, weaves, pathways, and folds.

Yin - In the second part of this workshop, we’ll open our practice up into a more flowing style. We’ll play with the joys of letting go, and leaving space in our training for epiphanies; moments of true skill and clarity. We’ll focus on relaxing into our practice, and allowing mistakes to happen without discouragement, as we hoop in the spaces above, beyond, and outside of our immediate control. We’ll look at techniques that involve balancing, tossing, and rolling, and learn how to integrate them with the styles of our Yang, to give us our most complete and unhindered expression.

No refunds available. But you may sell your ticket by contacting us and giving us a name to transfer the ticket to.

Ninja Hoops is a Bay Area (San Francisco, CA) based hooping duo. They perform and teach workshops to all ages. They incorporate elements of martial arts, classical acrobatics, and silly clowns into their hooping.

Note from Trish: I've had the pleasure of taking workshops from Marria and Zach over the years at Hoop Convergence and Return to Roots Hoop Gathering, and they are amazing. Their content is innovative and creative, they are wonderful teachers and their workshop delivery is as smooth and polished as their hoop flow. I'm so excited that they are able to visit Ottawa and I would strongly encourage hoopers in Ottawa and the surrounding areas to experience their Ninja energy.
